General ultrasound

We can perform scans of the abdomen, pelvis, renal tract, scrotum and thyroid. Preparation is as follows:

  • During this scan the sonographer will image your liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys and spleen. In addition the sonographer will pay particular attention to any region/s of pain.

You will need to fast for 5 hours prior to an abdominal ultrasound. Please only drink water during this time, no tea, coffee or cordial. You can take your medication as usual.

If you are diabetic please inform our receptionist, as we will prioritise you an early scan time.

  • For these types of scans you will need a full bladder.

Please empty your bladder one hour before your scan then drink three to four large glasses of water (approx. 750mls). Do not empty your bladder.

  • There is no preparation required for scrotum or thyroid scans.
