General ultrasound
We can perform scans of the abdomen, pelvis, renal tract, scrotum and thyroid. Preparation is as follows:

During this scan the sonographer will image your liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys and spleen. In addition the sonographer will pay particular attention to any region/s of pain.
You will need to fast for 5 hours prior to an abdominal ultrasound. Please only drink water during this time, no tea, coffee or cordial. You can take your medication as usual.
If you are diabetic please inform our receptionist, as we will prioritise you an early scan time.

For these types of scans you will need a full bladder.
Please empty your bladder one hour before your scan then drink three to four large glasses of water (approx. 750mls). Do not empty your bladder.

There is no preparation required for scrotum or thyroid scans.

This type of ultrasound is performed to check if your baby has developmental dysplasia (DDH) of the hip. It is important this condition is detected early. Babies are usually scanned around 8 weeks after birth.

Liver elastography is a non-invasive method of testing liver hardness, there are multiple platforms as to how this can be performed, the most common manufacture being Fibroscan. Our ultrasound machines house the best and latest technology of liver elastography with similar results to Fibroscan.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound
We offer a comprehensive range of musculoskeletal scans including upper limb, lower limb, and groin or abdominal wall. These scans typically involve imaging of the tendons, muscles, ligaments and bone surfaces. Dynamic assessment can also be performed with this type of ultrasound.
There is no preparation required for these types of scans, however it is advised that you wear loose fitting clothing at the region of interest.

Maternity ultrasound
We provide scans through most of the pregnancy including the post-partum period. Scans include early dating scans to assess the due date and confirm viability. Nuchal screening test and growth assessment. We offer digital transfer of images and thermal printouts at no additional cost. We are not performing anatomy scans at the moment.

Preparation - Only applies to 1st trimester scans ie: dating and nuchal.
You will need a full bladder. Empty your bladder one hour before your scan then drink three to four large glasses of water (approx. 750mls). Do not empty your bladder.
Note: After 14 weeks you do not need a full bladder for your scan.

Vascular ultrasound
We are able to perform scans to check for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in either the upper limb or lower limb veins.
In addition we can perform scans of the abdominal aorta usually to check for widening and / or plaque formation.
We can perform scans of the carotid arteries to check for narrowing of these arteries and/or plaque formation.
