What is ultrasound?

I’m glad you asked, and you’ve come to the right place..

What is Ultrasound?

Ultrasound, also known as sonography, is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images or videos of the inside of the body.

How Does It Work?

  1. Transducer/Probe: A device called a transducer or probe emits high frequency sound waves. You might notice multiple cameras being used by our staff. Some probes are best for deep structures and others for more superficial ones.

  2. Gel Application: A coupling gel is applied to the skin to help transmit the sound waves.

  3. Sound Waves: The transducer sends sound waves into the body, which reflect off internal structures.

  4. Image Creation: The returning echoes are converted into electrical signals, which a computer processes to create images.

Uses of Ultrasound

There are too many to list, it’s more of challenge to find non-uses of clinical ultrasound.

Benefits of Ultrasound

  • Non-Invasive: No incisions or injections required.

  • Radiation-Free: Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation.

  • Real-Time Imaging: Provides immediate visual feedback, useful for diagnostics and procedures

Why Choose Ultrasound?

Ultrasound is a safe, effective, and versatile imaging tool that offers numerous benefits for both patients and healthcare providers. Its ability to provide real-time images without the risks associated with radiation makes it an invaluable resource in modern medicine.
